Paper Critters

Model your own collection of 3D critters. Go wild with the colours, hair, facial features and add your own drawings to create characters, both good and evil! Once you’ve finished designing the critters, make them come to life by printing and folding them into shape.

Activities to try at home

1. Encourage a sense of responsibility by challenging family members to carry a critter around for the day - make sure it doesn’t get squashed by making a carrier to keep it safe.

2. Use the critters to help children discuss feelings or difficult situations. For example, you could make 2 critters - 1 representing hopes, and the other fears. Print out and put together your critters and use them to talk about the hopes and fears of your family.

3. Combine paper critters with other digital technology and websites. For example, you could create a photo diary of 'a day in the life of a critter' around the house or garden. You could gather your photos together in a gallery on Glogster, or perhaps design a comic strip adventure where the critter explores a new land. Photograph the critter on his journey and then edit the pictures into Chogger. Add your storyline and speech bubbles to bring the comic strip to life.
