The Digital Families Programme is underpinned by Learning to Learn principles. These help to develop meta-cognitive strategies which make learners think about learning more explicitly so they can plan, monitor and evaluate their own learning.

Research and reports on the use of meta-cognitive approaches, including the influential Sutton Trust Teaching and Learning toolkit, show a consistently high level of impact with reports of 7-9 months additional progress.

Each session within Digital Families looks at a different area of Learning to Learn: Readiness; Resourcesfulness; Responsibility; Resilience; and Reflection.

Learning to Learn

" Since we cannot know what knowledge will be most needed in the future, it is senseless to try to teach in advance.  Instead, we should try to turn out people who love learning so much and learn so well that they will be able to learn whatever needs to be learned."

John Holt
